Frequently asked questions
Your initial visit will include an hour-long comprehensive health assessment where we discuss your health history, current concerns, lifestyle habits, and goals. From there, we will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Subsequent appointments are scheduled to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and provide ongoing support and accountability. The length of follow-ups can include 15, 30, or 45-minute long visits. The frequency of follow-up appointments can vary. Initially, appointments may be more frequent to closely monitor your response to treatment. As your health improves, appointments become less frequent.
Yes! I offer virtual telemedicine appointments for patients located anywhere in British Columbia.
Naturopathic physicians are trained as primary healthcare providers. This means that most conditions can be supported within our scope of practice.
That said, my primary areas of interest include:·
- Cardiometabolic health: diabetes and blood sugar management, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, preventing cardiovascular disease
- Digestive health: microbiome support, constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux
- Integrative cancer care: prevention, education, improving outcomes or reducing side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and targeted therapies, improving quality of life in survivorship
- Immune health: infections, autoimmune conditions, frequent colds and flus
- Mental health: stress management, fatigue, depression, anxiety, brain fog
- Hormonal health: irregular menses, PMS, endometriosis, PCOS, perimenopause, menopause
Many extended health insurance plans in BC provide coverage for naturopathic medicine. Coverage can vary depending on the provider and specific plan. You may want to review your insurance policy or contact your insurance provider to inquire prior to your visit.
Naturopathic doctors undergo extensive training to become licensed practitioners.
Required training includes:
- Undergraduate Degree: Prior to naturopathic medical school, NDs are required to have obtained a degree through four years of undergraduate education.
- Doctoral Degree in Naturopathic Medicine: NDs attend a four-year, full-time accredited naturopathic medical program at a recognized naturopathic medical school. The education covers biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, and naturopathic therapies.
- Clinical Training: During their education, naturopathic medical students are required to gain experience through clinical rotations, working directly with patients under the supervision of a licensed naturopathic doctor.
- Board Examinations: Graduates seeking to practice in BC must successfully pass standardized board exams, including the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) and the CNPBC oral and practical examinations.
- Continuing Education: NDs are required to stay up to date on research and complete numerous hours of continuing education while in practice.
